Senior Tax Manager

Our client, a leading privately owned company with over the last 4 decades of experience 
has grown rapidly and is today a worldwide technology group with almost 4000 employees.

Due to ongoing organic growth, we are currently seeking a qualified permanent full-time Tax
Manager, International Tax to join our Global Tax & Transfer Pricing team. This position is based in Calgary, Alberta 

Duties and Responsibilities:

As a member of the Corporate Tax team, the Tax Manager, International Tax will be an extension of Corporate Tax in Canada with focus on Tax & Transfer Pricing for Canada and International projects. The Tax Manager will be an individual contributor (no direct reports) and the direct link between the Corporate tax team and the Regions for all areas of responsibility including:

  • Annual monitoring of related processes and procedures;
  • Provision of tax – legal analysis and subsequently, recommendations in the following areas:
  • International Tax issues: Double Taxations Agreements, International Tax disputes,
  • withholding taxes (WHT), Permanent Establishment (PE), Frequent Flyers compliance in Canada 
  • Effective Tax Rate (ETR) calculation for statutory and consolidation purposes;
  • Contribute to the tax provision process, IFRS reporting;
  • Support Corporate Tax & Transfer Pricing team in the elaboration of Transfer Pricing documentation, in accordance with International Tax Regulations;
  • Assist the Corporate Tax team and local Management in Canada in supporting during Tax & Transfer pricing audits conducted by local or international tax authorities;
  • Support local operations teams when calculating pricing to foreign customers, ensuring tax cost is appropriately covered, and identify opportunities for improvement;
  • Direct Taxes: Income Tax, WHT, Indirect Taxes: Sales Taxes, Service Taxes, Provincial/State Taxes, Municipal Taxes, Customs Duties etc.
  • Company Income Tax Returns, review and validation of final figures to be declared to CRA
  • Local (Provincial/Municipal) tax review and validation of final figures to be declared to respective tax authorities

Qualifications and Skills Required:

  • A minimum of 10 years International Tax experience (Canada and International);
  • Proven experience managing tax issues for a multinational company operating globally in a similar role – preferably within in the Oil & Gas, Pipeline or Asset Integrity industry;
  • Post-secondary degree in the area of Tax law, Economics, or Accounting is required;
  • In-depth Tax I, II, and III required;
  • Proven knowledge and understanding of Canadian and International tax legislation and
  • regulations (OECD/BEPS/Pillar Two/GILTI etc.), as well financial, tax planning and reporting
  • (IFRS);
  • Strong attention to detail, analytical, and creative problem-solving skills with the ability to
  • follow through on decisions;
  • Self-starter, ability to work with significant autonomy demonstrating clear initiative; both
  • independently and within local and remote teams;
  • Proven ability to effectively manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously;
  • Team oriented, ability to communicate and interact with cross functional teams;
  • Experience in Direct and Indirect taxes in Canada is required;
  • Superior written and verbal English communication skills are required
