The Opportunity

Our client, a leading Managing General Agency and provider of innovative commercial and insurance solutions is looking for an entrepreneurial spirited Sr. Commercial Underwriter to join their team and help drive growth and profitability. You’ll be working with a dynamic and fast-paced working environment with endless opportunities for professional growth.

Key Account Responsibilities and Functions

  • Using internal and external data resources in providing risk analysis for quoting.
  • Negotiate and authorize acceptance of risk of a moderate to high complexity, with a focus on new business production including helping to develop new products.
  • Attend and participate in broker and underwriting meetings, as well as presentations.
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships, including attending seminars and networking events as necessary.
  • Negotiate coverage and price with brokers in accordance company guidelines
  • Provide clear and effective communication requests and respond to requests in a prompt and professional manner.
  • Manage and grow a book of business.
  • Adhere to corporate guidelines and delegated authority parameters.
  • Update and maintain accurate records of decisions made as outlined by corporate guidelines.
  • Complete loss reports and post-claim underwriting reviews.
  • Mentor underwriting staff in general underwriting theory, technical and soft skill fundamentals

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • 5 years of related industry experience.
  • CIP designation or actively pursuing.
  • Level I or II broker license or ability to qualify for a license.
  • Experience in construction liability.
  • Advanced understanding and application of commercial underwriting theory in day-to-day practice.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit, strong selling and negotiation skills and a ability to generate revenue growth.
  • Delivery of timely and exceptional customer experience.
  • Clear and effective written and verbal communication.
  • Good decisional making and analytical skills;
  • Strong organizational, analytical and decision making.
  • Detail oriented.
