Senior Accountant – CPA Edmonton, AB
The Opportunity
We have partnered with our client to hire a highly skilled and detail-oriented Senior Accountant (CPA Designated) to join their finance team. As a Senior Accountant, you will play a vital role in maintaining the financial health and integrity of the organization. You will be responsible for a wide range of accounting tasks, including financial reporting, analysis, and compliance with relevant regulations.
Key Account Responsibilities and Functions
- Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
- Coordinate and perform the month-end close process, ensuring all transactions are recorded accurately and in accordance with established deadlines. Review and analyze general ledger accounts, identifying and correcting any discrepancies.
- Conduct thorough financial analysis, including variance analysis, profitability analysis, and trend analysis. Provide insightful recommendations to improve financial performance and support strategic decision-making.
- Collaborate with the management team to develop annual budgets and forecasts. Monitor actual performance against budgeted targets, identifying and explaining variances. Make recommendations for corrective actions when necessary.
- Evaluate and enhance internal control procedures to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with relevant regulations. Identify and mitigate financial risks, recommending process improvements where needed.
- Prepare and review tax returns, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations. Coordinate with external tax advisors, providing necessary documentation and support for tax audits and inquiries.
- Assist in the coordination and completion of annual financial audits. Provide necessary documentation and explanations to auditors, ensuring accurate and timely completion of audit procedures.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior accounting staff, fostering a collaborative and supportive work environment. Review their work for accuracy and completeness, offering constructive feedback and training opportunities.
- Stay updated on the latest accounting pronouncements, regulations, and industry trends. Recommend and implement process improvements to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the accounting function.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (Master’s degree preferred).
- Valid Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license is mandatory.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting, preferably in a senior or supervisory role.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., SAP, Oracle, QuickBooks) and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with keen attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex financial information in a clear and concise manner.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and meet strict deadlines.
- Prior experience in a public accounting firm is a plus.
