The Opportunity
Our client is seeking an experienced and highly skilled CPA designated Senior Accountant. This role will be crucial in ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with accounting standards, and driving financial efficiency within the organization.
Key Account Responsibilities and Functions
- Prepare, analyze, and review financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements. Ensure compliance with Canadian Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and relevant accounting standards (IFRS).
- Oversee the month-end and year-end closing processes, including journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation. Ensure timely and accurate completion of financial reporting activities.
- Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, ensuring accuracy, proper documentation, and compliance with internal controls. Investigate and resolve discrepancies or variances as necessary.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and monitor annual budgets and forecasts. Analyze actual performance against budgeted figures, identify trends, and provide recommendations for improvement.
- Assist in the preparation of audit schedules and support external auditors during the annual financial audit. Ensure compliance with statutory requirements, taxation regulations, and internal policies.
- Identify opportunities to streamline financial processes, enhance internal controls, and optimize efficiency. Implement best practices and suggest improvements to financial reporting systems and procedures.
- Provide guidance, mentorship, and support to junior accounting staff. Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including Finance, Operations, and Legal, to drive accurate financial reporting and decision-making.
- Conduct financial analysis, including variance analysis, profitability analysis, and cost analysis, to support strategic decision-making and identify areas for improvement. Present findings and recommendations to management.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Proven experience (minimum 5 years) as a Senior Accountant or similar role, preferably in a corporate environment.
- Canadian CPA designation.
- Public Practice experience is a strong preference
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. Advanced degree or specialization in Accounting is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of Canadian GAAP, IFRS & ASPE accounting principles and standards.
- Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems. Experience with SAP, Oracle, or other major platforms is desirable.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with keen attention to detail.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong leadership and mentoring capabilities, with the ability to guide and develop junior team members.
- Must be legal to work in Canada
