The Opportunity

Our client is looking to add a Director of Construction to their west coast office. This role will have accountability for one or more projects within the Western Canada division and will play a key leadership role. The Director of Construction will grow the company’s Infrastructure Division and will get to execute a business plan from ground up!

Key Account Responsibilities and Functions

  • Develop a vision and execute a strategic plan for the Western Canada District leading new project scopes
  • Primary district level lead for a project or multiple projects from market development and estimating through construction and project start-up
  • Provide oversight and be accountable for Western Canada projects, both on the business development side and on the execution side and ensure business needs are valid and correctly prioritized.
  • Track business performance and project progress and be responsible for profit and losses of the division
  • Provide ?championship’ for infrastructure projects, selling and marketing the area throughout the organization
  • Oversee the whole project management process from approving project deliverables to initiating project reviews and ensure risk are continuously assessed and mitigated
  • Identify opportunities to reduce overall costs and improve supplier performance
  • Recognize potential conflicts or issues and facilitate solutions (e.g. resource loading, priority clashes)
  • Establish structure of the organization then recruit, train, and manage the team to ensure business needs are met
  • Provide mentorship and continue to grow the team
  • Drive continuous improvement within the district whether it?s policies, procedures or reporting
  • Build strong relationship with other Operational Leaders of the Western Canada District and foster effective teamwork between leadership and staff
  • Communicate effectively with all stakeholders including clients, vendors and subcontractors
  • Identify, assess, and inform the District of internal and external issues that affect the business
  • Act as a spokesperson for the organization in community and industry activities to enhance the Districts community profile
  • Ensure safety and quality are prioritized throughout the division

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • A bachelor?s degree or Diploma in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or similar
  • Experience in a senior level role: – Project Director, Construction Director, Operations Director, Vice President.
  • Strong progressive experience in building or estimating heavy civil construction and infrastructure projects
  • Experience leading large scale project contracts, including ownership of operations, project administration, client relations and all other scopes relative to multibillion dollar construction projects
  • Competent in the use of computer software applications used for project control and administration, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and Outlook
  • Highly motivated, with a demonstrated passion for excellence and taking initiative
  • Strong work ethic, willing to do what it takes to get the job done right the first time

  • RRSP plan that includes company dollar-for-dollar match on contributions up to 6 percent of weekly base wages
