Great permanent opportunity for an Assistant Controller to join a growing team in Edmonton!

The Opportunity

Our client is looking for an assistant controller to support the Controller on the financial aspects of the organization. This is a fast paced very hands on role and the ideal candidate will have a background in public accounting.

Key Account Responsibilities and Functions

  • Responsible for the management and leadership of the accounting team, including mentorship on accounting practices
  • Support financial planning & analysis tasks including budgeting, forecasting, and modelling
  • Review and prepare financial statements and reports
  • Monitor cash balances and cash forecasts, advising leadership team of anticipated points of concern
  • Reconciliations of accounts and bank reconciliations (very complex)
  • Perform monthly, quarterly and year-end analyses
  • Schedule and direct periodic audits of accounts, financial transactions and other fiduciary
  • Oversee tax compliance and filing requirements
  • Serve as a liaison with external auditors
  • Encourage efficient use of financial resources
  • Researching accounting issues for compliance with generally accepted accounting principles

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Completion of a Bachelor’s or Masters degree in accounting at an accredited college or university
  • Professional accounting designation obtained (CMA, CA, CGA or CPA)
  • 1+ years of post-designation experience
  • Extensive experience and knowledge of all aspects of full cycle accounting and financial management,
  • Previous financial analysis, forecasting & budgeting experience and exposure to strategic planning
  • Advanced Excel
  • High level of critical and logical thinking, analysis, and/or reasoning to identify underlying principles, reasons, or facts, effective decision-making skills
  • Able to work efficiently as a part of a team as well as independently with a mature attitude
