Working with the Account Managers, and other Commercial Account Executives, you’ll play a key role in driving the growth of the book with a joint focus on new business development and leveraging existing commercial client relationships.  Key Account Responsibilities and Functions 

  • Research the market to prospect and acquire new clients 
  • Meet with clients to gain an understanding the nature of their businesses 
  • Act as Account Executive on the book of business 
  • Gather information to assess the insurance needs of prospects and clients, and develop risk profiles for proper assessment by underwriters 
  • Collaborate with marketing department to researching insurance companies’ risk appetites and negotiate with underwriters to find the most suitable insurance for clients at the best price 
  • Prepare reports for insurance underwriters and surveyors as needed 
  • Build and maintain ongoing relationships with clients including scheduling and attending meetings and understanding the nature of clients’ businesses 
  • Creating and presenting proposals to prospects/clients based on underwriting quotations outlining all changes, sub-limits, exclusions, deductibles, warranties required, and attach updated loss runs 
  • Collecting insurance premiums and processing accounts 
  • Responsible for renewal or amendments of existing policies
  • Acting as a claims advocate, advise clients whether and when they need to make a claim on their policies 
  • In compliance with procedures, keep detailed records and record all transactions accurately
  • Keeping up with changes in the insurance market and in the clients’ industries 
  • Initiate, build and maintain good working relationships with underwriters
  • Attend relevant internal and external training sessions and seminars 
  • Work closely with entire team to ensure all team goals are met 

 Required Skills and Qualifications 

  • Experience in life and group benefit sales as an Account Executive, including Life, Disability, Critical Illness, Succession Planning, Needs Based Selling, etc 
  • Life and A&S license
  • CEBS, CHS, or CFP designations would be an asset 
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite applications, EPIC and ETFile 
  • Understanding of Regulatory Board regulations 
  • Understanding of life and group benefits underwriting processes 
  • Understanding of insurance markets 
  • A collaborative sales professional 
  • Excellent customer service acumen 
  • Ability to set goals and organize and manage time effectively 
  • Anticipate, understand and respond to the needs of clients 
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to work independently
